A Story of faith
My journey began in March 2007 when I felt a lump in my breast. I had heard of other people who had cancer. Cancer, that was a life sentence [I thought] and any way I couldn’t have it, no one in my family has it and I was Christian young [40s] woman. I had been religiously doing my self breast examination and Pap smear – so I should be okay. I talked to my family and friends about my concern and they all encouraged me not to worry until there is something to worry about.

Facing Prostate Cancer
In December 2002, I discovered that I had Prostate Cancer after having a second Biopsy done in November of the same year. I had done an earlier Biopsy in June 2002 and received the good news that no trace of cancer was seen. This was short-lived however, as medication used to correct what was thereafter thought to be an enlarged prostate gland failed to work. My Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) score continued to rise.

A Survivor Relates Her Experience
I can still remember where I was, exactly what I was doing when I received that phone call from my doctor informing me that the pap smear test which I had done earlier showed that I have cancer of the Cervix in its earliest stage. It felt as if a death sentence had been pronounced on me. After all – hearing that you have cancer is one of the worst things that can ever happen to you. This is the sort of thing that happens to others – not to you!

Prostate Cancer Survivor - More Men Should Get Tested
Carl is an active 72-year-old, married man with one son. At the age of 55, he started screening for Prostate Cancer, going to his doctor for a test to measure the level of Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) in his blood as well as for a Digital Rectal Examination. He continued to go for regular early detection tests until a few years ago when the PSA test came back showing an elevated level of Antigen in the blood.
